Reflections on Week 7

This blog post is coming to you directly from Egypt. I landed two hours ago!
Before going into reflections on this week, I would like to thank Donna for introducing "Delicious" to us. It is amazing to format the computer without having to care about your favorite links.

Introduction done, reflections will flow. Usually, when working on the assignment I get frustrated, especially when there are interesting and useful resources and ideas that I can't use in class. I sometimes felt that I don't fit in this course. This week, I was happily surprised to see that this week's "subject" deals with teachers with few resources like me. I really enjoyed sharing my experience in a one-computer class.
The situation in a class with one computer with unstable connection to internet is quite challenging for a teacher and demotivating for a student. I even had the experience of last minute problems, related mainly to connection or the computer itself, where I had to improvise to fill the lack.
Although this kind of situation is stressful, it made me a stronger person in terms of dealing with stress and unpleasant surprises.

I also enjoyed working on the lesson plan. Actually, it made me think about another way to use a video that I find amazing and worth sharing. I advise you all to watch it (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-12618167).
It was also helpful to write ABCD Objectives. Actually, I didn't have the chance to apply it in class, since I haven't teach for a while and writing it from time to time is a good exercise for me.

In the coming two weeks, we will be presenting the first draft of our Projects (or Plan in my case) then the final version. This also coincides with the two-week training I am having in Egypt. I am sure that it will be stressful and crazy, but instructive at the same time.

Greetings from Egypt!

  1. Hi Ghada,

This may be the first time I've visited your Blog. It's really nice seeing your pretty face too.

When it comes to resources in the class, don't think that you are alone. We have more or less the same situation and I always try to see the positive side of everything.

Good thing about my students is that they get access to internet from morning upto the night (Up to 8pm)at the Uni. So, my plan is to show them or give instructions in a handout in creating blogs etc., which involves technology, and check if they had followed well. I hope your situation is not that bad. There's always a way to over come these set backs. Don't give up, find a way.

    All the Best!

    Chandy

  2. Hello partner!

Ghada! It’s nice to share your blogging experience!

First of all, I definitely have to say that I was astonished by the things I saw in the video from the BBC you suggested in you reflections this week!

It is amazing… as I said in my reflection, and I think you just gave the right example with that video, tools to be used in the classroom can come from anywhere, but is our work to find a way to select the proper ones and use then the best possible way! Thanks for sharing the link to the video! I am already thinking the way to use it with my students!

On the other hand, I have to tell you that I am having the same feelings about the course. It is giving me the nicest tools to improve my teaching and they seem to be inexhaustible. The ABCD method to create the objectives for my classes seem to be the best way to have that under control, and tell students exactly what I want them to do, which leads me to the “Delicious” experience, being this another, definitely very helpful way to keep those great resources I find online, organized.

Finally, I cannot go without asking you about this experience you are telling you are having in Egypt. How is it to be there? That is kind of a dream for me!

Well, hope to get in touch as much as possible during this next week, even though I know form your words that you’ll be very busy, I hope I can help you as much as I can, even when I have to say that this is going to be a very crazy week for myself because this first term of school is near to the end, and it is ALWAYS very chaotic towards the end..!

    Keep in touch!

    Teacher Henry from Venezuela.

P.S.: I definitely agree with Chandy, it is nice to see your pretty face too!
